Aries Marine Corporation is a privately held firm that owns and operates self-elevating workboats (liftboats) and supply vessels (OSVs) in the Gulf of Mexico. It was founded in 1981 by Dwight S. When did Bass Pro Shops purchase Ranger?
Ranger is a key sponsor of the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, the world’s largest tournament circuit, with events held in the United States and around the world. The tour was originally called after F. L. Wood, but it was renamed Fishing League Worldwide to be more inclusive of global competition. The Forrest Wood Cup, the FLW’s championship tournament, is still named after Forrest. L Wood.
Bass Pro Group purchased Ranger Boats and all of Fishing Holdings LLS’s brands in a deal announced in December 2014. Bass Pro acquired the Ranger, Triton Boats, and Stratos Boats brands as part of the agreement. Several bass boat businesses are made in the same factory, yet dealerships sell them as various brands.

Bass Pro Shops’ parent company, Bass Pro Group, said on Dec. 11 that it had agreed to buy Fishing Holdings LLC, the maker of the Ranger, Triton, and Stratos fishing boat brands.
Under the new ownership, several of the world’s most well-known fishing brands will be merged.
Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris and Ranger Boats founder Forrest Woods, both legendary bass anglers who fished together in the first national BASS competitions, are joining forces in the merger.
“This alliance provides both companies with added long-term stability, as well as dealer networks that supply customers with great boats at exceptional rates,” Morris said. “I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Forrest Wood for many years, and I have a great deal of respect for him and his family for founding and growing a successful company with good products.”
While the news has been greeted positively across the fishing and boating industries, with Bass Pro assuring stakeholders in both sectors that “business as usual” would continue, some are concerned about redundancy in the bass fishing industry’s manufacturing and marketing elements.
It’s no secret that the recent economic downturn has had a negative impact on boat, RV, and ATV dealerships, with many of them closing their doors due to high overhead costs and lower sales. Large outdoor retailers such as Bass Pro and Cabela’s have also moved marine and RV dealerships in-house in several of their larger retail locations.
Would this mean that an outdoor enthusiast could buy for fishing and hunting goods in Bass Pro Shops’ retail area before heading over to the dealership wing to look at a variety of Ranger, Triton, and Stratos boats all under one roof?
Casey Strickland, the store manager at Strickland Marine in Anderson, the local Ranger Boats dealer, finds no reason to be concerned.
“Nothing is going to change, we’ve been informed. Ranger will continue to produce the high-quality bass boats that have made them a leader in the industry “Strickland stated. “Bass Pro has its own brand of fishing boats, the Tracker, which is also offered through independent dealers in some of the same locations where Bass Pro shops are located, and it works out for both sides.”
