Celestial Spirit Keys are measured in Units (instead of Gold or Silver), and a Celestial Spirit Mage is identified by the number of Units they have collected. Each of the Celestial Spirits is named after an astronomical constellation. As Jackal prepares to blow Lucy up for good, Aquarius leaps to her feet and comes to the Celestial Spirit Mage’s help, seizing her and pushing Jackal back with a flood of water. Despite the fact that none of Lucy’s Spirits have the ability to vanquish the Tartaros members, Aquarius believes there is a way for them to win: Lucy must summon the Celestial Spirit King. When Lucy asks how this is possible since the Celestial Spirit King has no key, Aquarius replies that there is only one way to summon him: Lucy must use a substitute method by breaking one of the golden zodiac keys with which she has a special link. Lucy, stunned, yells out that she would never do such a thing, but Aquarius ignores her and orders the Mage to shatter her key. Breaking the key, Aquarius adds, will not kill her, but will prevent her from leaving the Spirit World. When Lucy refuses once more, Aquarius declares that she has always despised Lucy and has only tolerated her out of respect for Layla. Aquarius cries on Lucy to stand up and save her friends, and Lucy tearsfully raises her key, commenting that she won’t miss being summoned. Aquarius begins to cry as Lucy summons the Celestial Spirit King and shatters the mermaid’s key, silently declaring that, as much as she despises Lucy, she will be sorry to never encounter her again. With her commitment completed, she expresses her gratitude to Lucy and departs for the Celestial Spirit World.
