The zodiac signs are classified in a variety of ways in astrology. Fire, Earth, Air, and Water are the four elements in Western Astrology, and they are divided into three groups of three signs each (four times three equals twelve signs). The elements, commonly referred to as the Triplicities, indicate personality traits. The Qualities reflect different ways of doing things or expressing yourself.
What do the four components of the zodiac signify?
Triplicities were more of a seasonal nature in ancient astrology, therefore a season was given the attributes of an element, and the signs connected with that season were assigned to that element.
