How are the houses determined for a birth chart?
The ruling planet of the chart can also be found in the Ascendant. A person with a Sagittarius Ascendant, for example, lives in a world that is dominated by the bountiful Jupiter, whereas a person with a Pisces Ascendant is ruled by the compassionate Neptune.
The Ascendant is used not only to determine our unique terrain but also to design the unique structure of the chart. Birth charts are read counterclockwise, with the First House being defined by the horizontal line of the Ascendant.
