Our birth chart is a circular divided into 12 sections, similar to how a pie is cut into slices. Each slice represents a different aspect of our lives, which we refer to as “Houses.” Each house is controlled by a different zodiac sign, and there are a total of 12 zodiac signs.
Consider the signs to be the vibe/personality/characteristics that color the homes and how you handle that aspect of your life. The signs are always in the same order in everyone’s chart (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces), but the sign that begins your chart is determined by your date of birth. The Rising Sign, also known as the Ascendant Sign, is the first sign in your horoscope. The beginning of your 1st House, which starts your natal birth chart wheel, is your Rising Sign. While the focus of this piece is on our natal charts, I must emphasize that the houses play a crucial role in anticipating events. The sky changes all the time, but your birth chart does not. These are referred to as transits. The 10th house cusp is the most elevated of the all-important angles in a birth chart. Every day at noon, the Sun will reach this location in all of its glory, beaming brightly. When the Sun is at the Midheaven, it is at its highest point and strongest.
