As the 1st house, Whole Sign considers the complete span of the zodiac sign that appears on the Ascendant at the moment of a person’s birth. The 2nd house is made up of the next sign, the 3rd house is made up of the next sign, and so on. In the Whole Sign method, all residences are the same size (30).

What is the best way to determine my astrological houses?
Every zodiac chart is divided into 12 signs, and each of those signs is divided into 12 houses. Every planet in your chart is positioned in both a sign and a house, and each house represents a different area of life, from travel and romance to career. These two configurations show how a planet’s impact might manifest in your life.
It’s a lot to take in, which is why astrologer Chani Nicholas, author of You Were Born For This: The Astrology of Radical Self-Acceptance, recommends seeing the astrological mix of planets, signs, and houses as a theater production. “The planets are the characters, the signs are the costumes they’re wearing, and the homes represent the stages, or areas of life,” she explains. “Planets display their vitality in the style of the sign they are in, and they stand out in whatever realm of life, or house, they are in.”
While you may utilize diagrams like the one above to find the sign and house placements for each planet in your chart, it might be intimidating. Finding out which house your sun sign belongs to is an excellent place to start. Simply enter your birth time, place, and location into an online natal chart generator, such as this one, and scroll down to the textual description of your solar sign. You’ll find out what house it’s in there.
“The house in which the sun is located in your horoscope indicates a significant area of life in which you must express yourself and live out your primary life goal.” Astrologer Chani Nicholas
“The sun is a vital aspect of our life’s mission because it represents our essential selves,” Nicholas explains. “The house in which the sun is located in your horoscope indicates a significant area of life in which you must express yourself and live out your primary life goal.” , if your sun is in Virgo and you are in your tenth year
What are my three major indicators?
When most individuals think of astrology, their solar sign is often the first thing that comes to mind. After all, that’s the sign you’d check up when reading your horoscope or researching your cosmic compatibility with your crush. Understanding the differences between your sun, moon, and rising signs is a crucial place to start if you’re ready to delve deeper into your own astrology.
In astrology, your “big three signs” are your sun, moon, and rising sign.
Consider them your most important astrological data. These three signs are quite essential in your horoscope, and each is in charge of a different aspect of your personality and total self. While the sun represents your core self and the moon your inner self, you might consider your rising sign to be reflective of your outward self.
Even if you don’t believe in astrology, it’s just a matter of time before someone asks you for your big three, so now is the time to practice. Let’s go through the basic meanings and differences of the sun, moon, and rising signs so you may start looking into your birth chart and using astrology to your advantage. What is the meaning of a complete birth chart?
A natal chart (also known as a birth chart) is an astronomical image of the stars based on the precise date, time, and location of your birth. We compute the location of each planet, as well as the sign of the zodiac and house it was in at the time of your birth, using NASA data.
What is the distinction between Placidus and the entire sign?
Robert Hand’s booklet seemed convincing to me. He discusses the history of the entire sign house system in it. Now, I openly acknowledge that I did not conduct extensive additional investigation. I was already reading Firmicus Maternus and looking into other older astrological traditions at the time. However, I did not conduct extensive research.
Hand recommends spending some time exploring the charts you’re working with in both a quadrant-based system, such as Placidus or Koch, and the entire sign system, and then comparing the findings.
Chris Brennan, who also uses whole sign houses, was introduced to me at this meeting. Even while other astrologers I respect and admire, such as Lee Lehman, John Frawley, Lynn Bell, and Deb Houlding, didn’t, I knew Demetra George did. As I write this, I realize there are other astrologers whose work I love, and I’m not sure what house system they use off the top of my head.
I didn’t immediately start messing around with entire sign houses. It took me a bit to get my head around some of the philosophical concepts of switching housing systems. In the end, I followed Hand’s advice and began running charts for clients through both Placidus and Whole Signs to see whether there were any changes.
For nearly 18 months, I did this. It was a little perplexing because I had to think twice about each chart. The house system switch didn’t make much of a difference in certain charts, but it did in others.
Over time, I discovered that employing the entire sign house system to delineate issues in the birth chart gave me consistently greater insights.
This means that when I wanted to talk about something specific to the client, like children or fertility, the 5th sign from the ascendant seemed to constantly bring clearer insights.
The 5th house cusp is in the 5th sign from the ascendant in some Placidus charts, but in other Placidus charts, it is in the 4th or 6th sign from the ascendant. Rather of counting houses, you can figure this out by counting signs from your ascendant.
The house cusps are the sign cusps themselves, as each sign becomes the house.
This means that, while the Ascendant degree is still important and has all of the meaning you might expect, it is no longer the degree that marks the first house’s cusp, but rather a floating degree that rests somewhere inside the first house.
The other angular points, such as the Asc, Dsc, Mc, and IC, are still essential, especially for calculating planetary strength, but they float around inside a house rather than marking the cusp.
The MC degree can fall in the 8th, 9th, 11th, or 12th whole sign houses because the MC can be in any sign other than the 10th sign around from the Ascendant. When viewed from the perspective of a quadrant chart, this may appear strange, but it does provide more interpretive information.
If the MC degree is in the 9th house, for example, it indicates that the MC is focused on 9th house themes or will assist in the manifestation of 9th house themes. Perhaps the individual works in education or travel, or at their company’s or business’s foreign arm. Alternatively, they could be someone whose work revolves upon the quest of wisdom.
Here’s an example of Prince William’s horoscope, in which the MC degree is in the ascendant’s 12th sign. This could indicate that one’s career is focused on 12th house themes or activities. Working in a charity, working with those who are spiritually, emotionally, or mentally suffering, or working behind the scenes to support the success of others, depending on the sign(s) and planet(s) involved, this could mean working in a charity, working with those who are spiritually, emotionally, or mentally suffering. It could entail working in an environment that requires retreat or separation from society, such as a hospital, prison, retreat center, or other facility where individuals seek health and recovery (addiction treatment centre for instance).
By 2015, I was mostly working in full-service sign shops. I loved the philosophical integrity of how the signs connected to the ascendant, and how this seemed to better mirror the manifestation of each of the houses’ associated issues.
Wade Caves and Lee Lehman co-taught a horary intensive in Toronto in 2016, which I attended.
Lee and I were having a little conversation about house systems over dinner one night, and I was describing how I believed that life topics translated through the entire sign chart seemed clearer and more relevant than a quadrant system like Placidus.
The signs are linked to houses in a regular order throughout the sign system, so if Gemini is on the first house, Cancer is on the second, Leo is on the third, and so on. Because houses in Placidus might be greater than 30 degrees, a sign may be skipped as the house ruler on occasion.
In Placidus, for example, it’s conceivable to have a Gemini Ascendant and then a Leo on the second house, resulting in the third sign ruling the second house. Interceptions are the result of this. Cancer would be stopped in this scenario.
The same informationthe constant sign/pairingwould show up in the Equal house system, as the sign/house pairings would be the same in both the Equal and Whole Sign house systems, as both create sign/house combinations from the ascendant.
The ascendant’s degree becomes the degree of all the house cusps in the Equal house system, whereas in the entire sign system, all the house cusps are 0 degrees. The MC degree, like the complete sign, floats inside whichever house it falls into in the Equal house system. The topic of conversation changed, but the memory of that brief exchange lingered in my mind.
While my purpose here is not to take sides in the discussion or even to try to shape it, Tony Howard has been asking me for months to write something about why I converted to full sign homes, to help explain it to my students and clients, many of whom have accompanied me on this trip.
Thank you so much for your patience and support, if that’s you! I haven’t been compelled to write about it until now, three years after I made the move, because I’ve been too busy investigating the ‘new to me’ method in sessions and classes.
I understand how strange it is when someone you’ve studied or consulted with makes a substantial change in their practice, which leads to a slew of new concerns and debates. I’ve had a lot of conversations with students and clients about things like “what happens if the Sun is in the 8th house instead of the 7th,” or “what happens if the Moon is in the 11th house instead of the 12th.”
The answers to these fascinating questions transcend beyond the discussion over house systems and into how you approach chart work. These discussions have allowed me to gain a better grasp of birth charts and how they function.
These days, I only work in the sign house system as a whole. However, I spent the first ten years of my career in Placidus and Regiomontanus.
I still have clients and students who are really comfortable with their Placidus charts and prefer to work with me in that manner, which I am pleased to do.
I consider my duty as someone who, to the best of my ability, delivers insight, direction, and knowledge derived from your astrology chart in the most meaningful and relevant ways for you, as my client or pupil.
While house systems are significant, astrology is even more so, regardless of the house system you choose.
My four-part ‘Introduction to Traditional Astrology’ seminar will guide you through the exploration of entire sign houses as well as other significant traditional astrology approaches.
PS Ryhan Butler recently started a discussion on Twitter on the various housing systems. This can be found here.
What is your year of perfection?
To use this astrological timing technique, you must know your birth time and Ascendant Sign (or Rising Sign).
Let’s first clarify what Annual Profections are before attempting to calculate our own.
The basic answer is that your unique horoscope or birth chart assigns you a planet that becomes more energized with each passing year.
The planet that is your annual ruler is known as the ‘Time Lord,’ or the Lord of the Year, similar to the Lord of the Dance if you recall the jig!
If Venus is your ‘Year Lord,’ you may find that a Venus Retrograde, with a transit to your own Venus or a Libra House, draws you into the activity. Alternatively, during a Mercury year, you may feel particularly linked to Mercury Retrograde.
How To Work Out Annual Profections In Your Birth Chart
Step 1: Using the Whole Sign House System, cast your natal or birth chart (WSH)

Step 2: Determine your current year based on your age and the planet you are most sensitive to this year (i.e. Mars). You may also look back and forth in time!
Step 3: Investigate that planet in your horoscope to learn more about your personal relationship with it and how it is influencing you this year…
Step 4: Throughout the year, from one birthday to the eve of the next, mark out the transits of the planet (i.e. Mars) and take note of what that planet is doing (both as it moves around the Zodiac and as it touches your own chart).
Here’s an easy way to figure out what year you’re in by house:
Find your age by number, then look for the house it belongs to on the inner wheel…
Your years unfold as you move across the horoscope’s houses (one through twelve), with the eleventh house representing your eleventh year.
You start over at 13 years old, 25, 37, and so on because there are twelve households.
Another way to look at it is as follows:
- The First House of Perfection Year, from birth to the eve of your first birthday, 12, 24, 36, 48, and so on.
- Profection in the Second House Year, beginning with your first birthday and ending with your second birthday, 13, 25, 37, and so on.
- Year of the Third House, age 2, 14, 26, 38, etc.
- Year of the Fourth House, age 3, 15, 27, 39, 51…
- Year of the Fifth House, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet 16, sweet
- Year of the Sixth House, ages 5, 17, and 29,
- At the age of six, you are in the seventh house of perfection.
- At the age of seven, he is in his eighth year of house perfection.
- Year of Profection in the Ninth House, at the age of eight.
- At the age of nine, you are in the tenth house of perfection.
- Profection in the Eleventh House Year, age 10, age 22, age 34, age 46, and so forth.
- Year of the Twelfth House, age 11, age 23, age 34, age 47, etc.
The most crucial thing to know is your ascendant sign, also known as your rising sign, which indicates your first year. Now, let’s get started with a little guide to your house rulers…

What’s in the 7th house of my horoscope?
The 7th house, ruled by Libra, is concerned with relationships and how we conduct ourselves in them.
It is traditionally known as the house of marriage, but it governs all of our connections, including lovers, business partners, and even enemies.
“Unlike the 5th house, where sex, pleasure, and what we seek in another person reside, the 7th house is recognized as the house of marriage and committed or contractual partnering,” says astrologer Corina Crysler.
“It can also reveal what we require in our relationships, as well as the patterns we continue to have.”
What is the nature of my Stellium?
When you map your natal chart, you can see the positions of all the planets in the sky at the time of your birth, not simply where the sun rises and sets.
“A stellium occurs when three or more planets are concentrated in a single zodiac sign or house in someone’s chart,” the twins explain. “Babies born in the summer of 2020 will have a stellium in Capricorn, because Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto are all in Capricorn,” they explain. Having Mars, Mercury, and Saturn all in the fifth house is another example (which relates to romance, love, and creativity).
In some cases, people’s charts may have more than one stellium (i.e., three planets in Sag and three in the eighth house).
In astrology, what do the 12 houses represent?
The houses in astrology are the cosmic equivalent of a crystal ball, only far more reliable. There are 12 houses in the Tarot, each symbolizing a different aspect of life, such as health, money, relationships, and everything in between. Consider the wheel of houses as a sky map, with planets traveling from house to house all the time. Each planet was in a different house when you were born, and those houses may be seen in your birth chart. Because the homes are based on the time you were born rather than the date, you may need to text your parents to find out.
The positions of the planets at the time of your birth (or throughout your life) might reveal important information. For example, if Jupiter (the planet of luck) was in your second house (which governs wealth) at the time of your birth, making money will most likely come easily to you. (Could you please share the love?)
