What does a Gemini Lake Chromebook cost?
I don’t want to mislead anyone right now.
When not on sale, this CTL Chromebook comes with a last-gen Gemini Lake Pentium Silver processor (N5030), 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, and costs $389. Other manufacturers’ products with similar build quality and specifications fall within the same price range. In the Chromebook world, that’s not exactly low-end or budget, but I’ve been similarly impressed by the standard Gemini Lake Celeron N4020 processor that drives affordable Chromebooks we’ve done films about that are significantly less expensive than the CTL I just mentioned. Simply said, low-cost Chromebooks are improving.
And as we approach the middle of 2021, the promise of Intel’s Jasper Lake chips can’t help but thrill us even more.
We’ve already got some hands-on time with these processors, and the performance improvements over last year’s Gemini Lake processors are astounding.
When they arrive in significant numbers and they WILL we can expect a surge of inexpensive Chromebooks with performance that won’t detract from the experience in the least.
For the same typically low prices, manufacturers can spend their device money on things like bigger screens, better build components, and more RAM and storage.

What is Gemini Lake, exactly?
Gemini Lake (GLK) is the name of Intel’s new generation of system-on-chips, which succeeds Apollo Lake. These low-power processors are primarily aimed at low-cost embedded devices, laptops and desktops, all-in-one PCs, and IoT devices. Gemini Lake chips are based on the Goldmont Plus microarchitecture and are built using a 14 nm technology.
Beginning with Goldmont Plus, Pentium-based Gemini Lake was rebranded as Pentium Silver, whereas Intel’s huge cores (e.g., Kaby Lake) were rebranded as Pentium Gold in an attempt to differentiate the low-power core from Intel’s big cores.

Best detachable Chromebook
The Chromebook Detachable CM3 is Asus’s response to Lenovo’s well-received Chromebook Duet. The CM3 is a 10.5-inch, 16:10 Chrome OS tablet with a fabric cover, a kickstand, and a pop-on/off keyboard, similar to the Duet. It costs a little more than the Duet, but it comes with a few extra features.
One unique feature is that the kickstand can be folded in two different ways: long to stand the tablet up like a laptop, or short to set the tablet up horizontally. We’re not sure how useful this feature is, but it’s available if you have a specific use case in mind.
The CM3 also includes a built-in USI pen and spacious keys with remarkable travel. But it was the battery life that impressed us the most: we averaged nearly 13 hours of continuous use on the gadget.
For some people, the CM3 isn’t the best Chromebook: It only has two connections (one USB-C and one audio connector), and its MediaTek processor was noticeably slow in comparison to more pricier models. You’re probably the CM3’s target audience if you’re searching for a convertible Chrome OS device and the Duet doesn’t quite meet your demands.
