When is the next new moon in April 2022?

What is a solar eclipse of the new moon?
When the moon passes between the sun and the Earth at new moon, a solar eclipse occurs. When the Earth, sun, and moon align in space, with Earth between the sun and moon, a lunar eclipse occurs. During a lunar eclipse, Earth’s shadow falls over the full moon, darkening its face and occasionally turning it a coppery crimson in the middle of the eclipse. Every year, we usually experience four to seven eclipses, some partial, some total, some lunar, and some solar. Why aren’t eclipses visible at every new and full moon?
The orbit of the moon around the Earth takes about a month. We would have at least two eclipses per month if the moon orbited in the same plane as the ecliptic, Earth’s orbital plane. Every full moon would result in a lunar eclipse. There would also be a solar eclipse during the new moon two weeks later, for a total of at least 24 eclipses every year.
Moon’s orbit is inclined
However, this does not occur since the moon’s orbit around Earth is 5 degrees inclined to Earth’s orbit around the sun. The moon contacts the ecliptic Earth’s orbital plane – twice a month at nodes. An ascending node occurs as the moon moves from south to north in its orbit. A descending node occurs when the moon moves from north to south.
If the full moon or new moon passes close enough to one of these nodes, an eclipse is not only possible, but almost certain.
An eclipse does not come alone
Solar and lunar eclipses always occur in pairs, with one eclipse occurring every two weeks (approximately two weeks). On April 30, 2022, for instance, an ascending node partial solar eclipse will be followed by a descending node total lunar eclipse on May 15-16, 2022.
A descending node partial solar eclipse will occur on October 25, 2022, six lunar months (six new moons) after the ascending node annular solar eclipse on April 30, 2022.
There will be an ascending node total lunar eclipse on November 8, 2022, six lunar months (six full moons) following this descending node total lunar eclipse on May 15-16, 2022.
Eclipse seasons
Two eclipses, one solar and one lunar, are most typically seen in a single eclipse season, which lasts about 34 to 35 days. However, if the first eclipse occurs early enough in the eclipse season, there may be three eclipses in one eclipse season (two solar and one lunar, or two lunar and one solar). The last time this happened was in July-August 2020 (lunar/solar/lunar), and the next time it will be in June-July 2029 (solar/lunar/solar).
The middle of the eclipse season in 2022 happens between May 15 and November 4. The lunar nodes are in perfect alignment with the Earth and sun in the middle of an eclipse season, which lasts roughly 173 days.

In around 29.5 days, the next new moon and full moon occur nearly 30 degrees eastward as indicated by the zodiac constellations. The moon, on the other hand, returns to its node two days early, in 27.2 days. A waning crescent moon (not a new moon) crosses the moon’s ascending node on May 29, 2022, and a waxing gibbous moon (not a full moon) crosses the moon’s descending node on June 12, 2022, following the eclipses of April 30, 2022, and May 15-16, 2022.
Despite the fact that the moon’s orbit is inclined to that of Earth, and an eclipse does not occur with every new and full moon, there are more eclipses than you may expect. All of these are breathtaking. They serve as a reminder that we live on a planet as well as an opportunity to fall in line with other beautiful worlds in space!
