How Does The Zodiac Curse Break

Tohru’s mother died in a car accident a few months before the series begins, leaving her an orphan in the care of her grandfather. She settles into an atent on land that turns out to belong to the Sohmas when his house needs remodeling. Shigure persuades her to come in with him and Yuki as cleaner in exchange for bed and board when her tent is buried in a landslide during a downpour. Kyo Sohma appears to challenge Yuki to a battle as she settles down. Tohru mistakenly embraces him, transforming him into a cat, and when she runs into Yuki and Shigure, they convert into a Rat and a Dog, respectively, in the confusion. The Sohmas explain that their family is cursed and that they are possessed by spirits from the Chinese zodiac, as well as a cat who, according to mythology, would have been included if the Rat hadn’t fooled it into missing the induction feast (see Zodiac origin stories). Tohru agrees to preserve their secret under danger of having her memories of them wiped, in exchange for Akito Sohma, the family’s enigmatic chief, ordering Kyo to live with Shigure as well.

Tohru quickly becomes acquainted with the three Sohmas, particularly her classmates Yuki and Kyo, whom she hopes will become friends, and they are gradually touched by her presence. Tohru’s desire that if her memory is erased, he remain her friend, which no one had ever asked him before, moves Yuki deeply. Kyo appears to despise Tohru at first, but he, like Yuki, is “attracted” to her soft manner and compassionate heart. His difficulty to verbalize his sentiments, on the other hand, leads to frequent impulsive furious comments to Tohru, for which he typically apologizes. Tohru gradually meets the other cursed members of the Sohma family and is able to help Hatori, Ayame, Kisa, Hiro, and Ritsu by her kindness and sympathy. Yuki is helped to overcome his own self-doubts and accept his role as president of the student council by the fact that he recognizes Kisa as the lost little girl he had guided home, an act that demonstrated to him that he was not as undesired by others as Akito said. After his foster-father Kazuma Sohma compels him to display the horrific “real form” of his curse, Tohru gets particularly close to Kyo; despite his initial repulsion, Tohru stays with him even after he violently tries to throw her away. Yuki and Kyo both fall in love with her, but neither of them tells her.

Tohru becomes increasingly distressed as she learns more about the zodiac curse’s cost to her friends, particularly Momiji Sohma’s separation from his little sister, Momo, who has no idea (but suspects) they are siblings, and her friend Arisa’s longing for Kureno Sohma, who is unable to see her because he is bound to Akito. She resolves to reverse the curse after learning that the feared Akito is the “god” of the zodiac and of the bet he made with Kyo, which might result in the cat being imprisoned for life. Tohru enlists the assistance of Kazuma, Rin, and Kureno. Despite setbacks and warnings from Rin, who is also trying to break the curse, in order to liberate Hatsuharu, he persists. Tohru is adamant about achieving her goal. Shigure, who is using Tohru to weaken the curse for his own motives, finally gives her support and hints.

Meanwhile, Tohru’s feelings for Kyo grow stronger, and she acknowledges that he is the Sohma she most wants to be freed because she loves him. This, on the other hand, distresses her even more, as she believes she is betraying her mother’s memories. When Tohru finally confesses to Kyo, he says he knew her mother as a child and that he could have stopped Kyoko from the car that killed her if it hadn’t exposed his curse and Kyoko’s final words, “I won’t forgive you!” (It was later discovered that she meant “I won’t forgive you if you don’t look after Tohru!”) Tohru, on the other hand, does not believe her mother would say such a thing, and if she did, she would have to disagree because she loves him. He can’t accept Tohru’s sentiments because of his guilt, so he claims her love is an illusion and flees. As she pursues him, she encounters Akito, who feels that Tohru’s love and acceptance of the cursed zodiac members has caused them to be disloyal to her, so weakening their “connection” to the point where Momiji and Hiro have been liberated from the curse. However, as she confronts her fiercely, Tohru realizes that she, too, is caught by the past, clinging to her mother’s memory, and she extends her hand in friendliness to Akito, introducing herself as a fresh start. Tohru, however, falls over a neighboring cliff as the ground collapses in the rain, before Akito can accept. Kyo realizes how much he cherishes Tohru as a result of the accident, and Akito is finally able to break free from the roles she has played for much of her life.

Tohru survives the fall and is admitted to the hospital. As she recovers, Akito welcomes Tohru’s friendship and accepts herself for who she is, rather than the deity she believes her father wanted her to be, and for the woman she was born to be, rather than the man she was raised to be. Meanwhile, Yuki persuades Kyo to reunite with Tohru once she is released from the hospital. Yuki has learned that what he wants from Tohru is unconditional “motherly” love, not the affection of a woman. Tohru, on the other hand, dashes away when she sees Kyo because she feels rejected, but Kyo pursues her. Kyo professes his feelings for her after catching up with her. The zodiac curse is broken, and all the Sohmas are set free, thanks to the cat, the god of the zodiac’s first buddy. In the final chapter, she and Kyo are shown packing to relocate to another city so that he can continue his martial arts study and eventually inherit Kazuma’s dojo, and it is revealed that they married and had a son and a granddaughter in the final pages.

How did Kureno Sohma’s curse come to an end?

Kureno and Arisa rejoin in town ten days later, and they recognize each other from the day at the convenience store. Kureno offers Arisa lunch to catch up, and she accepts, expressing her desire for tororo soba. They learn more about one other during lunch, and Kureno admits that he doesn’t get out often; in fact, the first time he met Arisa was also the first time he went to a convenience shop. In relation to this, he notes that he lives his life in a certain manner and that he doesn’t do “unnecessary” things like going for walks or shopping very often. Arisa inquires if he is actually content, to which he responds that he is.

Arisa is enraged by this since, while she had hoped to see him and was overjoyed when she was able to, he just saw their time together as “unnecessary.” Kureno follows her out the door and hastily apologizes for saying something so harsh. He adds that he, too, wished to see her again and that spending time with her made him happy. Kureno gives Arisa a sincere smile as she chuckles. He leans in as if to kiss her, but he leaves her hanging, puzzled and perplexed. Later, Kureno is shown heading into Akito Sohma’s chamber, where she asks him whether he feels uneasy “outside.” Kureno returns Akito’s side while reflecting on how he had wished to keep Arisa by his side forever and regrets that he may now have to forget about her.

During the summer, Akito takes Kureno to the Sohma beach house, where the majority of the other Cursed Sohmas and Tohru were vacationing. Yuki Sohma is taken aback when he sees Kureno near the ocean and by Akito’s side. Shigure, too, expresses his surprise that Akito brought Kureno along. Kureno can only look away when Akito confronts Yuki about his insecurities. Kureno stays at Akito’s side for the rest of the holiday, however Akito isolates Kureno by not allowing him to see the other Zodiac members or attend the Zodiac reunions. Kureno complies without hesitation.

Kureno informs Akito that she had gotten a call from the main home one night. Akito implies that her mother, Ren, has caused a commotion at home, and Kureno tells her to return home to sort things out. Akito, on the other hand, dashes out to the Sohma’s beach house to “meet” Tohru, but ends up telling her the truth about the curse. When Kureno comes up to her, Akito introduces Tohru as the Rooster, and Kureno meets her graciously. Kureno then accompanies Akito back to his house, leaving everyone else at the beach house.

Tohru begins on a secret search for Kureno Sohma after learning from Arisa that the man she has a crush on is named Kureno Sohma. She enters the Sohma “inside” and finds Kureno in his office, and when she is about to be discovered by Ren, Kureno saves the day and takes Tohru’s place. Tohru asks him whether he knows Arisa, which strikes a chord with Kureno, and he drags her out of the property. He informs her, though, that he has no plans to meet her again. Kureno is unable to respond when Tohru asks if it’s because he’s one of the Zodiacs. Tohru, on the other hand, swiftly offers him Arisa’s contact information, and Kureno laughs at her sincerity and persistence in her acts, so he chooses to safely let Tohru go.

Momiji decides to copy the recorded play to DVD and present it to Kureno after Arisa’s class has a play. Momiji hurriedly hands the DVD to Kureno during the annual Zodiac Banquet on New Year’s Eve. Kureno watches the play on his own the next day, after nervously agreeing to stay by Akito’s side forever and sleep with her. He is taken aback and reminded of how lonely he is when he sees Arisa break out of her role and shout out in rage because she wanted Kureno to see her. Even though he appears to want to meet Arisa, he is haunted by a memory in which Akito begs him not to abandon her. As a result, Kureno dials Shigure’s number and informs him that he has something to discuss.

He then encounters Tohru accidently on her part, and she is taken aback when she notices that all the birds have flown away from him. He hugs Tohru and tells her that his curse was broken when he was her age – and that “he can’t fly anymore.” He then gives Tohru the DVD, explaining that her gift was “wasted” and that, despite being free of the curse, he will never see Arisa again and will always be by Akito’s side. Despite the fact that he dismisses his two encounters with Arisa as insignificant, he quickly breaks down in tears and realizes that he really does want to see her, as she was the first woman he fell in love with after being released from the curse. But, in order to keep Akito from being lonely, he wants to stay by her side and pretend to be a member of the Zodiac, disclosing Akito’s true identity as a woman to Tohru in the process. He tells Tohru that Shigure, Hatori, Ayame, and himself were the only four people who knew Akito’s true gender, as well as about Akito’s mother Ren and their feud. He then apologizes to Tohru for injuring her as well as Arisa, but insists on continuing on the path he has chosen.

Kureno joins Akito during a Sohma family gathering. Shigure confronts him there briefly, and Kureno is reminded of their phone conversation, during which Shigure recognized that he was free of the curse and that obeying Akito’s demands just made her more twisted. Despite the fact that Shigure has told Kureno that he despises him, Kureno decides to keep Akito company.

What is Momiji’s strategy for breaking the curse?

He was reared by servants and lives alone within the Sohma family complex. His mother was revolted when she first learnt of the zodiac curse when she first held him, shortly after he was born; she later had Hatori delete her memory that Momiji is her son. Her feelings for him were so abrasive and unpredictable that just seeing him might send her into a frenzy. Finally, she pleaded with Hatori to wipe her memories, saying that her greatest regret in life was “that thing coming out of my body.” Momo, his younger sister, is ignorant that he is her elder brother, despite her fascination in him and her decision to take violin lessons because he plays the violin.

Momiji, despite his background, is perceptive of others and emotionally powerful. His curse is broken before the rest of the zodiac in Chapter 115, and despite Akito’s pleadings and threats, he decides to leave him one day. Despite his curse, Momiji warms up to Tohru instantly, kissing her when they first meet and cuddling her when they are properly introduced. He assists Tohru in her nighttime job as an office cleaner in one of his father’s buildings on occasion, and once filled in for her when she was unwell with a cold. He adores Tohru and will go to any length to defend her, even if it means defying Akito.

Momiji tells Hatsuharu and Rin in the final chapter that he hopes to find a woman as wonderful as Tohru if Kyo does not act on his affections for her.

What exactly is the Zodiacs’ curse?

Curse of the Zodiac is a 2007 Lionsgate horror film written and directed by Ulli Lommel, based on the true story of the search for a prominent serial murderer known as “Zodiac” who claimed responsibility for a series of unsolved murders.

In Fruits Basket, how does the curse break?

It’s also possible that the curse began to shatter when “the unloved is loved,” i.e. when the despised, outcast Cat was first loved by Kazuma and subsequently by Tohru (the cascade of curse-breaking does start with Kyo embracing Tohruand ends with Yuki, who was first in the zodiac and last to leave it).

Why did Kureno have an affair with Akito?

Shigure and Akito had a tumultuous relationship. When he was around 5 or 6 years old, he had a dream about her conception and fell in love with her before she was even born. With tears streaming down their cheeks, he, Hatori, and Ayame walked to greet her. Although Hatori and Ayame had only brotherly affections for Akito, Shigure’s feelings for him evolved beyond that.

When they were both children, he declared his emotions for her and, according to Akito, was very kind and gentle to her. When Yuki was younger, he recalls seeing Shigure soothing a crying Akito in his arms.

Years later, Akito sleeps with Kureno as a way to keep Kureno close to her through a physical bond, as the zodiac bond is no longer effective. Is no longer there, a jilted Shigure slept with her mother, Ren, as a form of retribution, knowing that it would pain her more than anything else, causing the devastated Akito to evict Shigure from the main house. Shigure departed the main home without resistance and was very enraged by the situation; he later expresses his sorrow at the fact that Akito had chosen Kureno above him in various moments.

Shigure’s feelings for Akito are a mix of intense affection and hatred, unable to let go of his love for her and continuing to strive to save her and have her all to himself by breaking the curse and freeing Akito from the burden of having to be the God, all of his actions geared towards this goal, but treating her coldly, no longer coddling her when she was down and antagonizing her without hesitation whenever she shows anger towards him, to the point where b

This is also done to avoid appearing to be imitating Akira Sohma, since he tells Hatori that he “wishes to become Akito’s father.” This has a double meaning: he does not want to play the role that Akito’s father Akira played in her life, telling her over and over how special she is and how the zodiac lives to love her, ultimately isolating her from the outside world (in the same way the original God from the myth himself lived, willingly isolated from the world with only the zodiac to keep him company).

It was later revealed that his detached attitude stemmed from the emotional pain he felt over their past, to the point where he stated that if he hadn’t remained calm, he would have exploded on Akito, and that he didn’t want to believe she was finally his until he knew it was true, as he didn’t want to go through the same pain he did when Akito slept with Kureno. As he tells Kureno, “Don’t get me wrong: I think it’s great. Akito is one of my favorite characters. I’m in love with her much too much. So much so that I want to lavish her with gifts. So much so that I want to suffocate her.”

Shigure has stated that he doesn’t care how many people have to suffer in order for him to achieve his objectives. Meeting Tohru, like meeting the other zodiacs, has transformed Shigure and has reflected in his views on his relationship with Akito. He begins to realize that, while being a part of the zodiac has never bothered or held him back in the way that other members have, he believes he is the most cursed of all the zodiac animals due to his great obsession for Akito, which has propelled him since day one.

Tohru’s influence has allowed him to begin giving her more tenderness, although staying as aloof and frigid as ever around her: When Akito instantly refuses the blame and rants that as the god of the zodiac, she has the right to do as she pleases, he appears coldly enraged and is about to depart, but when Akito kisses him to stop him from going, he immediately softens and hugs her. Despite the fact that their past has driven a chasm between them, he can’t deny the attraction he feels for her.

When the curse is broken and Shigure receives his desire, he has matured and learnt a great deal from the experience, to the point where he says he would have let Akito go if she didn’t want him. They reconcile (though she does throw a tantrum on him that resembles her old ones), and Akito chooses to fully assume her responsibilities as the head of the Sohma family. Shigure quits his career as a writer to be with her and fight her mother.

It is revealed in Fruits Basket 2 that the two marry and have a son named Shiki Sohma. Shigure is usually in control of the main residence because Akito is occupied elsewhere as the family’s leader.

Because Akito is a man in the 2001 anime, their connection is very different. Shigure, on the other hand, perceives Akito as the family’s deadly leader, but he is not afraid of him. He stands up to Akito twice to protect Tohru, even restraining him once. In the end, he believes that Akito, like the other Sohmas, may have changed for the better, but he agrees with Hatori to wait and see.

What makes Akito so cruel?

Shigure asked Akito about letting Tohru to reside in his home after making the bet with Kyo. Akito agreed to this since she was confident in her ability to defeat Ren. Because Akito believed the world was a cruel, gloomy place where unconditional love did not exist outside of the Zodiac ties, she assumed Tohru would eventually reject the cursed Sohmas, prompting them to return to her side brokenhearted.

Akito is spotted gloomily peering out of a window at Tohru as she exits the Sohmas’ main house following her first visit there. Tohru noticed her and was terrified by Akito’s dismal, hateful atmosphere.
