After playing the hosts of Splatoon, Callie and Marie transitioned to a different role in Splatoon 2, allowing room for two new stars. They were replaced by Pearl and Marina, two members of “Off the Hook,” who have since taken on the tasks of announcing stages and Splatfests. Naturally, internet fandom has fawned over the two, and there has been a rivalry between the two fanbases since their introduction this summer.
A new art book for Splatoon 2 was recently released in Japan, and some artwork of Pearl and Marina revealed their ages. Pearl is the older of the two; she is 21 years old, while Marina is 18 years old. To be sure, it’s an intriguing piece of knowledge; now all we have to do is wait for the comments and artwork to start coming in on Inkopolis Square to see what the fans think.

Pearl is what sort of squid?
- Pearl’s Japanese name “Hime” is drawn from the Northern pygmy squid, where “princess” literally means “princess,” while her last name “Hzuki” is derived from the real-world enormous squid, which translates to daihzukka in Japanese.
- Pearl and Marina are comparable to the Squid Sisters in the following ways:
- Pearl dresses in the same magenta-colored scheme as Callie.
- “Don’t get cooked…stay off the hook!” is a catchphrase akin to the Squid Sisters’ “Staaaaay fresh!”
- Like Callie, they’re expressive and exuberant, whereas Marie is feisty and sarcastic.
- Marina’s name is a synonym for harbor, therefore it’s possible that Pearl and Marina’s English names are puns on Pearl Harbor.
- Pearl and Marina appear to be Squid Sisters fans, as Pearl was surprised to learn of Callie’s absence, and she and her buddy both hoped the Squid Sisters would return.
- Their names are altered to Alga and Nori in the Italian edition, as a reference to “nori seaweed” in Italian.
- In Italian, the group is known as “Tenta Cool.”
- In the Italian version, Marina’s name is Marie.
- The Octo Expansion reveals that Off the Hook’s first song was Ebb & Flow, which appears three times in the Expansion.
- Marina recorded a demo recording on Mount Nantai with a half-broken keyboard before meeting Pearl.
- When there’s one minute left on Turf War on the NILS Statue, a “Octo” remix of the song plays.
- When Commander Tartar is defeated and Inkopolis is saved at the end, a choral version of it plays.
- The authentic amiibo for Pearl and Marina come with their Octo Expansion attire.
- Marina refers to Pearl as “senpai” in the Japanese version of the game, according to dialogue. Marina looks up to Pearl as a respected figure who came before her; in this case, the music industry. “Senpai” is an honorific used in addressing someone of an elder with the same social standing or one with more experience in a field or trade, implying that Marina looks up to Pearl as a respectable figure who came before her (or the Inkling world, as Marina grew up among the Octarians).
- This is owing to the fact that Pearl is three years older than she is.
- From many news exchanges, Pearl appears to have a unique bond with Snapper Canal.
- Pearl’s father used to teach her how to ride a bike in Snapper Canal. Marina, on the other hand, claims that she still wears training wheels.
- Pearl adds that when she was a kid, a boy from school took her to Snapper Canal, but she doesn’t elaborate on the circumstances. This adds to the concept that the Inklings have an education system that they ignore in favor of territorial conflict.
- Pearl hails from a wealthy family, according to many of her conversations with Marina, which explains some of her attitude, appearance, and demeanor.
- Pearl recalls having owned a ship similar to the Manta Maria when she was six years old.
- She is the proud owner of a go-cart.
- Despite holding a job, she continues to receive a stipend.
- MakoMart was visited by her family’s personal shoppers.
- Her family owns and designed the stage Camp Triggerfish.
- It’s also indicated that she composed the lyrics for Camp Triggerfish’s official camp song ( “Triggerfish, triggerfish, triggerfish! Pull the trigger, if you’re a fish! “Trigger, trigger, and again! Argh! Argh! Argh! Argh! Argh! Argh! Argh
- Her low stature is attributable to the fact that the Northern Pygmy Squid is one of the world’s smallest squid species, measuring only 16 millimetres in length and belonging to the bobtail group of small squids.
- Himeito (, a portmanteau of Pearl’s name, Hime, and the English word “mate”) refers to Pearl’s supporters in Japan. As seen on the Pearl Scout Lace-Ups, the English counterpart of this moniker could be “Pearl Scout.” The term “Pearl Scout” refers to the Girl Scouts.
Callie, what kind of squid are you?
In comparison to her cousin, Callie is a very trendy Inkling with a more ‘edgy’ design. Her black tentacles have a purplish-pink tinge at the ends and are wrapped in a giant bow on the back of her head with the ends dangling, coupled with a bang swept to the right of her face. She has a beauty mark on her left cheek and huge, angular eyes with gold irises and light-brown pupils in the shape of a plus. Her brows are thick and oval-shaped, and her black eye markings end in little eyelash-like points. Her ears are slightly narrower, longer, and upturned than the ordinary Inkling’s, and she wears chunky, milky white earrings on them.
Her attire is black with a reflective texture, as if coated in sequins, and appears to be a romper with a corset and purplish pink lacing in the back and puffy shorts. Three magenta marks appear on the front, which, somewhat morbidly, resemble the slices made in cooked squid. She wears magenta tights, white gloves, and a little white pointed neck ornament that looks like a shirt collar with this attire. Callie is dressed in a pair of black wedge shoes with a leather-like texture, a gleaming purplish-pink bottom, and two pink buttons on either side of the ankle. Her head is covered in a pink and white hat that resembles the Japanese fast snack ikayaki, which can be seen flying off when she jumps. During a Splatfest, any portion of Callie’s appearance that is ordinarily magenta, such as the ends of her tentacles, is modified to match the color of her Splatfest team. As seen in her amiibo figure and squid form in Super Mario Maker and Miitomo, this is her regular ink hue.
Callie wore traditional Japanese attire as a child, and her tentacles were untidy and much shorter, the longest of which fell just below her left ear. Her first attire was a purple yukata with a squid pattern on the sleeves and a flower pattern near the bottom, as well as a pair of thick black zori with purple thongs, as seen in Sunken Scroll 17. She had a purple ornament on the left side of her head that looked like the feather section of her hat, and her bang was swept to the left like Marie’s instead of the right. Callie wore a red-orange yukata with a white jellyfish pattern and slimmer zri, though still with purple thongs, for her second outfit, which was displayed in promo graphics for the Japanese Grasshopper vs. Ant Splatfest. Her purple accessories had been replaced with green and red, and she was wearing what appeared to be a blue inner tube on her back.
She wears a pink beanie with a star on the left side with her bang visible, sunglasses, and what appears to be a pink T-shirt while acting as Agent 1. Her tentacles are hidden by her beanie, so it’s unclear how she wears them. Her beauty mark is noticeably absent. Her dress hints that she is concealing her true identity from any passing fans.
She wears a radically different outfit while being brainwashed by DJ Octavio: a small black crop top exposing her midriff with three pink marks, similar to her stage outfit, revealing a pink octopus-shaped temporary tattoo near her navel that can be washed off with hot water, according to The Art of Splatoon 2. Her earrings have been replaced with golden octopus-shaped earrings, and her cap has been fashioned to look like an octopus tentacle or takoyaki (fried octopus). Her stockings are dark purple with a magenta tinge and sparkles, giving them a cosmic effect, and her shorts appear to be made of black leather and are low cut enough to expose a peek of pink cloth, probably her underwear. She also wears DJ Octavio’s hypnoshades, which are a pair of sunglasses he employs to keep her under his control.
Callie wears a more casual outfit at Tentakeel Outpost, consisting of a white shirt with a black undershirt and a pink cardigan, black shorts, brown heeled shoes with pink socks protruding, earrings, and the same pink beanie she wore as Agent 1 of the same color as her hoodie with the yellow star introduced in Splatoon. She also claims to have a kimono comparable to Marie’s, although it has yet to be seen.
Callie is a regular pink squid in her squid form, as seen in Super Mario Maker, but with her signature pupils and eyelash-like points on top of her eye markings.
In Splatoon 2, what color is Pearl’s signature?
Pearl is one of two members of the band Off the Hook, which appears in Splatoon 2. Inkopolis News is hosted by her and Marina, who took over from the Squid Sisters in the first game. Light pink is her characteristic hue.
Is Marina older than Pearl?
Marina’s surname is revealed to be Ida in the Octo Expansion chat log, giving her the full name Marina Ida (Japanese: , Iida). Pearl’s surname in English is presently unknown, but it is thought to be Houzuki (Japanese: , Hime). Pearl and Marina are members of two species of intelligent humanoid cephalopods in the fictional Splatoon universe: Pearl, an Inkling, is 21, and Marina, an Octoling, is 18.
Pearl was originally conceived as an Octoling before the duo’s character designs were finalized, which makes her look more like Callie and Marie of the Squid Sisters. To contrast the similarities, she was redrawn as an Inkling and made shorter.
Marina’s age in Splatoon is unknown.
- Marina’s age has been revealed via Nintendo’s Splatoon Twitter and the Splatoon 2 art book.
- In the Japanese version of the game, Marina addresses Pearl with the honorific “senpai,” which is an honorific used to address someone of a higher social position in a field or trade.
- Marina looks up to Pearl as a mentor or a revered figure who came before her, implying that she is either younger than Pearl or less familiar or experienced in the Inkopolis industry. Despite being three years older than her, Pearl is shown to be three years older in the Splatoon 2 artbook.
- Marina is named after the webfoot octopus in Japanese, while Marine is short for “marination” and could alternatively be derived from her English name. The double hyphen indicates that the given name comes first, not the surname.
- Marina and Marie have a few things in common:
- Because the two duos are so similar, Marina’s teal color scheme is mistaken for green, just as Marie’s green color scheme is.
- “Don’t get cooked… keep off the hook!” is a catchphrase akin to the Squid Sisters’ “Staaaaaay fresh!”
- Marina’s attire in the Octo Expansion, notably her bandana, has been compared to rapper Tupac Shakur by fans of the game.
- During one of the Blackbelly Skatepark discussions, both Marina and Pearl discreetly break the fourth wall. Pearl’s words: “Hey, kids, don’t sit in front of the TV all day! Go outside and have some fun! Then Marina responds: “But how can they play video games if they’re not in front of a TV?!, breaching the fourth wall slightly because they’re talking about the players, not the Inklings in the audience.
- This dialogue also alludes to the Nintendo Switch, which is a hybrid console that can be used both on a television and as a handheld.
- Marina and three Octarians were at the final boss battle of Splatoon and mistook it for a concert, according to Sunken Scroll #2.
- Marina and Pearl’s names are altered to Alga and Nori in the Italian version, a reference to “nori seaweed” in Italian.
- Marina’s full name is a blend of her English name Marina and her Japanese name Iida, as revealed in Octo Expansion. This is also true in the Japanese version, except Marina’s given name is Marine and her surname is Iida. Marina has (almost) the same full name in both the English and Japanese localizations, making her one of the few characters who has this.
- This is also reflected in the Italian translation, which gives her the full name Nori Marinis.
- Marina’s fandom in Japan is referred to as Iidachi (), a combination of Marina’s name, Iida, and tomodachi (), the Japanese word for “friend.” As shown on the Marination Lace-Ups, the English equivalent of this moniker could be “Marination.”
- Marina claims her favorite veggie is beets in one of her talks in Kelp Dome, a pun on beats, indicating the fact that she remixes/creates beats as a DJ.
- Marina’s Japanese surname is Iida, which is a common surname in Japan but also short for Iidako, which means webfoot octopus in Japanese. Marina, Pearl, and the Squid Sisters all have Japanese names that are puns on squid species, therefore this could suggest Marina is that species.
Is Marina a Splatoon octopus?
Marina is an Octoling, a type of Octarian Inkling. She has dark brown complexion, silvery-teal eyes with reddish-pink pupils in the shape of an infinity sign (like octopuses in real life), two eyelashes per eye, very dark teal eyebrows that are always downturned in a “worried” look, and a beauty mark to the left of her lips. She stands taller than the majority of Inklings and Octolings. Her sharp teeth, like Pearl’s, are in the middle on both the top and bottom, rather than being asymmetrical, as they are on other Octolings. Her tentacles are a dark purplish-brown tint with teal borders, although they can transform to a single color. Her fingers and toes are pointed and teal at the tips, giving the impression of painted nails. They are long (the longest of all Octolings) and worn down past her waist. She’s also claimed to have several hearts, similar to how real-life octopuses do.
A sleeveless black blouse with a wide, mostly unzipped silver zipper with an infinity-shaped hole resembling an 8 and a high collar covers her chest, leaving her stomach uncovered and revealing a teal navel piercing. Over teal tights, she wears black shorts with a diagonal waistline and slanted deep teal lines, black fingerless gloves, and black boots with wide undone silver zippers with 8-shaped openings, similar to the one on her top. Her ears, which are slightly larger than the ordinary Octoling’s, are usually covered by these headphones, which are gigantic black headphones with teal rings on the sides. She also wears spectacles on occasion, as seen in Splatfest artwork. Except for her eyebrows, the teal on her design changes to match the color of the team she chooses during Splatfests.
Marina’s dress in the Octo Expansion is more hip-hop than her pop stage appearance, and she resembles rapper Tupac Shakur. She’s dressed in a white turtleneck crop top, seafoam colored capris, and silver bowed gray-white shoes. She’s wearing a white bandana wrapped around her head with light gray designs, a long silver chain necklace with an 8 symbol pendant (similar to her zippers from her stage outfit) around her neck, a black wristwatch and a black chain bracelet on her right arm, a white turtleneck crop top, seafoam colored capris, and silver She keeps her headphones on as well. The Marinated Headphones, Marinated Top, and Marinated Slip-Ons are copies of Marina’s Octo Expansion outfit handed out by the Marina amiibo.
Marina’s tentacles were shoulder-length as an Octoling warrior, and she wore the Octoling Goggles, Octoling Armor, and Octoling Boots, as well as Elite Octoling seaweed on the sides of her head, which was first seen in Marina’s chat room and later on the back of the Splatoon 2 Live in Makuhari -Tentalive- limited-edition slipcover.
She donned a metallic dress with a number eight cut at the chest and very long sleeves that changed into gloves at the Final Fest, as well as matching boots that were higher than the dress’s hem. She also wore a separate pair of headphones with diamond shapes instead of circles and had two diamond shapes painted on her face.
Is there a connection between Callie and Marie?
These Inkopolis idols are actually cousins, rather than “sisters.” As pop singers, news anchors, and co-hosts of the fantastic Splatfest events, they used to form a great team. Callie, on the other hand, has vanished! Will you be able to assist Marie in her search for Callie and the Great Zapfish while fighting the Octarian army?
Which squid sister is the best?
Callie is considered by some to be the best squid sister. That is also my opinion. Allow me to explain why Callie is the best squid sister. Some believe she is kind rather than sarcastic like Marie. Callie is also a happy person. Callie is concerned about what others think of her, and she is constantly striving to improve. Callie appears to be the type of person who wants to make the world a happier place.
Another reason Callie is the superior squid sister is that she dabbed (THIS IS FROM FANS!) People like Callie, however, because she is pleasant and considerate of others’ feelings. Callie isn’t like Marie at all.
